A few things you should know about injectables
Wrinkles - nobody likes them. But how do they appear, how do we prevent them and does injectable treatment only cause more wrinkles? Read on to find out.
How and why do wrinkles form?
The wrinkles formed from these expressions are called dynamic wrinkles and occur from the constant forming of facial expressions e.g. when we frown, vertical lines between our eyebrows become noticeable.
When we’re young, our skin springs back after pulling facial expression but as we age, the dynamic wrinkles remain in the skin and these wrinkles are called static wrinkles. The difference is, static wrinkles remain present on the still, even when our face it at rest.
Factors like the environment we live in, smoking, sunlight and stress have all been proven to contribute to the creation of lines and wrinkles.
How do we reduce/prevent wrinkles?
By injecting a muscle relaxant (prescription only) medicine that is administered only from a qualified doctor aka. Dr. Sean, the appearance of wrinkles can be reduced. It’s generally registered for the treatment of crow's feet, forehead lines, and lines that appear between your eyebrows called glabellar frown lines.
Wrinkle prevention injections should be combined with other rejuvenation procedures such as IPL photo-rejuvenation and facial treatments such as peels and microdermabrasion.
How does the muscle relaxant work?
Muscle relaxant is used to relax specific facial muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles (the wrinkles caused by facial expressions). Once the muscles are relaxed, you can’t contract them when you continue to make the expression that caused them. The lines gradually smooth and new lines are prevented from forming.
Will it cause more wrinkles to form?
No, however If you choose not to have further treatments, your muscles will eventually return to their pre-treatment level.
Should I have a wrinkle relaxant or dermal filler?
This is a question quite frequently asked. Preventative muscle relaxing injections and dermal fillers do different things. The muscle relaxant works best on wrinkles in motion, ½ those which form due to expression, but are not obvious when no expression is made. Dermal fillers on the other hand literally fill the crease or void which has already been formed. So, we can only suggest a consultation prior to your treatment to work out which option will best attend to your skin needs.
